California-based NComputing Inc, a global provider of low-cost personal computers and virtual desktop software, has enabled shared-computing in 5,000 government schools in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh to improve the learning outcomes of 1.8 million students. Under the state government’s PPP (public-private partnership) build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) model, several ICT companies including NIIT, ECIL, Educomp, Everonn, IEG, Terasoft and Social Computers are utilising NComputing’s X-series shared-computing technology, reducing the companies’ aggregate expenditure by Rs.80 crore. NComputing which began its operations in India in 2007, is working with 15 state governments to pilot or implement its cost-saving shared-computing solutions.
“Our shared-computing technology is best suited for Indian conditions. It cuts the cost of computers by about half, reduces electricity consumption, and is easy to manage and secure,” says Raj Shah, global chief marketing officer of NComputing Inc.
