A cast of 70 students of the Himali Boarding School  (HBS) Kurseong, West Bengal, staged Andrew Llyod Webber’s hit musical Bombay Dreams before capacity audiences in Thimpu (Bhutan) on November 9-11.

Invited by the coronation committee of the Kingdom of Bhutan to commemorate the completion of 100 years of the monarchy, and the coronation of His Royal Highness Jigmi Kesar Namgyal Wangchuk, the musical attracted audiences which included Her Majesty Aji Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck and Her Majesty Aji Tshering Wangchuck. After the inaugural performance of Bombay Dreams in Bhutan, their majesties visited with the cast backstage, and complimented director and chief co-ordinator of the production Robbie and Poornima Subba, as well as the entire cast.

Bhutan’s minister of education Thakur Singh Powdel also met the cast and lauded their performance. Stressing the importance of the performing arts as an important life skill, the minister said HBS students would be an inspiration to school children wherever they performed.
